IQNA – Explaining the concept of Yawm At-Taghabun, an Iranian seminary scholar said that on the Resurrection Day, a person will not only see the results of his actions, but also his lost place in Paradise; a scene that will be his greatest regret and spiritual torment.

Iranian seminary scholar Ayatollah Rahim Tawakol

Ayatollah Rahim Tawakol made the remark in a session on ethics, explaining about the Days of Judgment from the perspective of the Holy Quran.

One of the names of the Day of Judgment is Yawm At-Taghabun (Day of loss, deprivation, deceived), he said, noting that Taghabun comes from the word “Ghubn” and it is the day when a person realizes that he has made a great loss.

“A person sometimes buys an item from a store at a high price and then realizes that the price was not real and that he has made a great loss. Then, he can return it and cancel.”

He added, “We were born to do deeds and to achieve positions through the blessings of these deeds. When we leave this world, we will see that there were many opportunities and situations that we lost, and if we had been mindful, we would have achieved many results.”

He further said the places of heaven and hell are such that one can see the other from within both. “When we were born, God designated a place in heaven and hell, and if people were people of righteous deeds and correct faith, they would have a place in heaven, and vice versa, a place in hell.”

Ayatollah Tawakol added that a person who has entered hell is shown the place he would have in heaven, and when he sees this place, he feels huge regret, and conversely, the people of heaven are shown the place they would have in hell (if they had gone astray in this world), and they feel enormous joy (for not having ended up there).

Ayatollah Tawakkul cited Verse 14 of the Quran’s Surah Al-Hadid: “(Those outside heaven) will call out, ‘Were we not with you?’ (Those inside) will reply, ‘Yes, you were with us but you spent your life in disbelief and hypocrisy, wished death to (Muhammad), had doubts about his message and let your longings deceive you until the decree of God came to pass. The devil deceived you about the mercy of God.’”

The seminary scholar stated that they were caught up in the world of falsehood and desires and became arrogant, and that this false arrogance caused them to sink into the mire of sin and they ended up in hell.

He concluded by saying that many people talk about piety, but they fall short at the time of need.

“One of the things we should know is that no matter what we do, we will be resurrected one day, and everything inside us will be revealed, and we will be made aware of everything we have done. God is the witness and observer of all our deeds. Now, if we are taken to the Hereafter with these deeds, will our heads be raised in honor before God, or will we feel ashamed? We must prepare for the Day of Judgment.”
